The Department of Hospital Management was established in 1995 by the leadership of the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Philadelphia University in Jordan, as part of a long-term strategy to prepare healthcare providers for the challenges of a dynamic healthcare environment.
One of very few Hospital Management Departments across the country with a department of hospital management, our Department has evolved into a nationally recognized academic research, education, and consulting group, specializing in outcomes and health services research, undergraduate level and continuing Health Services Management and Hospital Management education, and customized training programs. Our Department is committed to an overarching mission to improve the quality of healthcare in Jordan and the rest of the Arab regions, working in concert with medical educators, clinicians, and health outcomes researchers in health systems, hospitals, physician organizations, managed care organizations, the pharmaceutical industry and individual healthcare provider groups.
Today, the Department’s activities reflect the present and future directions of healthcare. Our Research Team is focusing on health services and outcomes projects in such areas as:
- Clinical and non-clinical care quality measurement for hospital departments;
- Productivity measurement associated with specific diseases;
- Disease management outcomes measurement;
- Senior health issues associated with the government of Jordan health care reform strategies; and
- Value-based (healthcare) purchasing for employers.
In addition to undergraduate Hospital Management education, fellowships and a senior scholar program, the department provides Education and Scientific Programs to address the critical issues facing healthcare professionals. Recent topics have included:
- Impact of e-health and mobile health on decision-making now and in the future
- Crossing the Health care Quality gap
- Patient Safety
- Unique learning opportunities ranging from on-line courses to Web Casts
- Programs work in a variety of organizations, including hospitals, health care systems, long-term care organizations, physician group practices, and insurance and managed care firms.
