Department of Library & Information Science-Overview

Mission

The Library and Information Science Department seeks to advance the profession and practice of librarianship and information science; to prepare students for careers in the field of information and library science and to make significant contribution to the study of information technology. The mission of the Bachelor Degree of Library and Information Science Programme is to educate and motivate qualified individuals to become library and information professionals capable of providing a wide array of information services to a diverse population in a rapidly changing world.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

  1. To provide strong, flexible educational programmes in the fields of Library Science, Documentation, Archives and Information Science, to prepare effective library and information professionals.
  2. To contribute to the knowledge, theory, critical assessment, and interpretation of information & information services through students’ teaching, training and research activities.
  3. To demonstrate a commitment to the ethics of the profession and cooperation among libraries and other information agencies.

Thinking & Analyses

  1. To play an effective role in promoting the social, ethical and information services among the society.
  2. To contribute to the goals of Philadelphia University through participation in various academic, administrative and other activities.

Practical Skills

  1. To fulfill the requirements and needs of the various institutions and associations with qualified and trained manpower in the field of libraries, documentation, archives and information.
  2. To demonstrate essential competencies in the Library Science Information Technology, Communication Networks and Information Services.
