The Faculty of Nursing at Philadelphia University is established by a decision of the council of higher education, and teaching in the faculty started in the academic year 2004/2005. The establishment of this faculty is a consequence of the university strategic priority for advancing health science and providing necessary community services. The faculty offers a B.Sc. degree in nursing. This program is built upon a foundation of science and liberal education which prepares graduates as professional nurses for positions in hospital and community agencies. The Faculty of Nursing, Philadelphia University is responding to strategic academic priority of advancing health and wellness. This program focuses on holistic approaches to health promotion, illness prevention and patients care.
The Faculty of Nursing is establishing itself as a center of excellence in nursing education, research and public service.

PHILOSOPHY
The Faculty of Nursing at Philadelphia University cares about the quality of life and maintaining the wellbeing of the community.
We believe that the nursing profession contributes to the society through the promotion of health, prevention of diseases and care for individuals and families in a variety of settings. Nursing therapeutics refer to the work of nursing, including application of cognitive, behavioral, psychomotor and affective processes to the design of nursing interventions with client systems. The practice of nursing is committed to the values of caring, sharing, trusting, listening, and respecting. It is influenced by a multi-cultural population and occurs in diversified health settings.
Emphasis is placed on the nursing process as a systematic method of assisting clients to attain, regain, and maintain maximum functional health status. Various roles of the nurse as educator, clinician, leader and researcher is also emphasized.
We believe that the nursing profession is concerned with the basic concepts of nursing which includes, man, health, nursing, and the environment.
Man:
Each individual is unique, complex, and holistic multi-dimensional being with bio-psychosocial cultural and spiritual components in constant interaction with an internal and external environment. Each individual possess thoughts, feelings and values, and is a member of the community who has the capacity to interact with and be influenced by other members of the community.
As consumers of health care, individuals are capable of self-care and have the right to make informed choices.
The faculty of nursing recognizes that each individual has value and worth and his/her human rights must be fully respected.
Health:
Health is a state that exists on a continuum and encompasses physical, psychological, interpersonal, spiritual and social aspects. Health is perceived according to the individuals cultural and developmental perspectives. The state of health for individuals, families, and communities is influenced by adaptation to internal and external environmental factors that affect the individual’s ability to achieve self-care.
Nursing:
Nursing is an evolving academic discipline that integrates concepts from the bio-psycho-social sciences and the humanities. It is a profession that applies research and theory from nursing and other disciplines to its practice. Nursing provides a service directed toward the promotion of self-care and health, the management of human responses, and the maintenance and restoration of optimal health to a diverse society.
Nursing is characterized by a commitment to practice within ethical, legal and professional standards. Those who are engaged in the practice of nursing are responsible for the profession’s direction and the role it plays in the evolving health care system. Nurses collaborate with consumers and other health care providers to achieve health care outcomes. The nurse is a counselor, advocate, and care manager.
Environment:
Environment consists of an individual’s internal and external systems that are in a constant interaction to impact the health of the individuals. The environment can alter the health of the individual's positively by changing or removing unhealthy stressors and enhancing or providing health-promoting resources.
