Program Benchmarks for Department of Nursing


At the end of the Bachelor program of nursing, the graduate students will:

  1. Provide patient-centered care which should be based on the patients’ preferences, attitudes, beliefs, values, and needs within the context of their families, communities and the health care delivery system. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Holistic care
    • Therapeutic relationship
    • Participatory decision making
       
  2. Demonstrate professional behaviors in the practice of nursing. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Professional values (altruism, autonomy, human dignity, and social justice)
    • Professional attitudes
    • Professional accountability (moral, ethical and legal)
    • Ethical and legal practice
    • Advocacy
    • Professional role

       
  3. Demonstrate integration of knowledge, skills and professional attitudes through the use of clinical evidence and reasoning. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Liberal education
    • Clinical reasoning
    • Empirical evidence
    • Evidence-based practice
    • Clinical competence

       
  4. Identify threats to safety and develop strategies to minimize risk of harm to individuals and populations. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Environment safety
    • Harm reduction ( to patients, staff and visitors)
    • Information technology to support safe practice
       
  5. Apply organizational, leadership, and management concepts in the provision of high quality nursing care. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Care coordination
    • Quality care and improvement
    • Collaboration with inter-professional health care team member
    • Delegation
    • Fiscal responsibility  (economic factors and available resources)
    • Organization systems (culture and structure)

       
  6. Provide population focused care incorporating concepts of health promotion, disease and injury prevention. The following key concepts should be taken in consideration of graduate student:
    • Global health (issues and objectives)
    • Health promotion and disease prevention
    • Risk assessment
    • Health policy
