At the end of this course the students will have the knowledge of the following the emergence and development of health services management in the hospitals and the other health, health care medical treatment and illness. Also they will have a good idea concerning the components, characters tics of the health system the increasing concern in the health services management as a profession the comprehensive primary health care and the health system in Jordan.

 

Principles of Health Management/ Obligatory/ prerequisite0380101:

The course explains the managerial process in the health services system, which include the function, concepts, and managerial roles of the health. It discusses also the environment in which the health manger work, and the forces affecting the environment such as financing, controls, movement legislations, ethical, legal, and technological considerations, the modern organizational models, including multi-hospital systems, resource utilization and control, risk management, quality assurance, potential trends in health services in the light of rapidly accelerating environmental changes.

At the end of this course the students will have a good idea about the following subject: the historical development of hospitals, the importance of hospitals and their role in the social and economic development in societies the need for effective hospital management the essential functions of hospitals the hospital planning and organizing and the management of medical paramedical and administrative services or units in the hospitals.

At the end of this course, the students will have a good knowledge on the following: the concept of the law the historical development of the health legislations and the medical liability, the types of accountability of the hospitals concerning their physicians malpractices the Jordanian public health law the Jordanian physicians law, and other health staff laws.

 

Demography and biostatistics (population and vital statistics) * 380108*

The focus of this course will be on the following: fields the concept of the population science, the sources of population data, the controlling factors of the population growth, the fertility and the population structure the vital statistics, the population polices in some countries, and the population case or problem through the history.

 

The financial management in health organizations *380440*

A course covering institutions and applications in health care finance. Topics include the economics of insurance and the healthcare markets; third party reimbursement with emphasis on Medicare prospective pricing and Medicare physician reimbursement; strategic financial planning, operational budgeting, and variance analysis; cost of capital and capital structure decisions; and alternative costing methods.

This course will cover the following: the information concept, the information types, its sources, its confidentiality, and its methods of collection, the relation ship between the managements functions and the information, the concept of the system, the administrative information systems definition and emergence and its types, characteristics, and positives, the administrative information upgrading, the administrative and organizational results by adopting the information’s systems in thy organization, and some enveloped information’s systems in practice.

Comprehensive health quality management * 380342*

At the end of this course, the students will know the importance of the Comprehensive health quality management as a scientific approach and an effective method for the problems solving and the promotion of the society health level. Therefore the students will be introduced to the basic and the concepts of quality management, include other matters, such as, the back ground of quality, its importance, nature, and some quality management systems.

This course aims to introduce the following subjects and matters to participants: the concept of health service marketing, its characteristics that distinguish it from other service or products, health service information systems and its function to provide administration information to facilitate decision-making, the marketing mix as the essence of the marketing, the problems that health organization fact and suggested solutions.

The course discusses the health planning in terms of types, level, scope, methods and procedures, and their applications to health care. Needs assessment, goals and objective settings, in addition to how health institutions secure and manage scarce of productive resources to rise up the heath status. It presents also the methods of evaluating health plans, as well as the importance, role, and applications of health information in health planning.

 

Computer Skills in Health Orgs.  *380450*

It discusses the application of all health services such as medical care, medical records, health services facilities statistics and indicators, both technical and managerial in different software. Computerized health information system will be introduced, and its application on personnel management, accounting and finance, material and drug administration, engineering and maintenance, paramedical activities, admitting and discharge planning, organizing waiting lists for outpatient services, scheduling surgical operations, and other medical and managerial services. 

 

Drugs and their uses/ obligatory/   prerequisite *0380201*:

It discusses the importance of drugs in human health, and their role in the care and prevention of diseases. It includes also the classification of drugs, the common drug items, the medical indications and their use, for their sides effects, the economical and managerial aspects concerning the provision of drugs in hospitals as well as some important business related matters. This is besides to the quality and safety considerations in the use of drugs, the control of use, the cost and some of the managerial issues related to the hospital pharmacy.

 

Medical Records and Information System/ Obligator/ Prerequisite *0380411* :

It includes the medical record as a  subsystem within the supra hospital system, and its relations with other hospital subsystems, the importance of the medical records in the management of patient care process and other hospital activities both technical and managerial, organizing the medical records department, the content of the record, the basic and special medical forms, important data and information both medical and managerial, indexing, numbering, filing, and classification systems, the fields in which modern information technology can be used, and computer applications in medical records management.

Health information system/ elective/ prerequisite *0380412*: 

This course provides the future health­care administrator with background and skills related to: 1) management oversight of the design, acquisition, installation, and operation of information systems in a healthcare setting; and 2) productive utilization of information for strategic planning, executive decision-making, and managerial control. Specific topics include: features and components which comprise an integrated health information system; computer and computer network terminology and concepts; managerial issues associated with information system planning, acquisition, implementation and operation; the systems analysis process applied to the evaluation of information technology and the recommendation of appropriate information technology enhancements and the value of information as an asset in managerial decision-making and control.

 

Accommodation Services Hospitals/ Obligatory/ prerequisite* 0380420*:

The course discusses all types of services and accommodations provided for the patients during their hospitalization period. The services include admission and discharges.
