Biography

Dr. Yazan Al Thaher is working as an Associate Professor of Nanotechnology and Pharmaceutics at faculty of Pharmacy in Philadelphia University, Amman, Jordan. The Major focus of Dr. Yazan research involves nanotechnology-based delivery systems for controlled drug release using advanced and novel technologies. His work involves synthesis and characterization of organic and polymeric nanoparticles, nanocomposites, drug delivery systems and advanced biomaterials. Dr. Yazan worked in a pharmaceutical company called Dar Al Dawa (Amman, Jordan) as Formulator in the Research and D departement, then as a Production Section Head for 4 years being in charge of more than 80 emplyees (production and packaging). During that period, he studied Master degree at the University of Jordan. In 2015, Dr. Yazan was awarded a scholarship from Philadelphia University to commence his PhD studies in Cardiff University Wales, UK. He is an author for more than 30 publications and received funding from national and international grants (Philadelphia University and University of Jordan- Jordan, Cardiff University-UK, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University-Saudi Arabia). Dr Yazan has presented his work at numerous international and national conferences such as the 28th Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), Greece. Also, he presented his work in the 22nd International Symposium on Surfactants in Solution (SIS), Oklahoma/USA.

Research Interests

The focus of research involves the development of nanotechnology-based delivery systems for controlled or triggered drug release. The applications of these delivery systems as follows:

Novel drug delivery systems

Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology

Pharmaceutical Formulation

Controlled Drug Delivery

Triggered Drug Delivery

Pharmaceutical and medical microbiology

Nanotechnology: pharmaceutical and medical applications

Orthopaedic antimicrobial nanocomposite bone cements

Advanced biomaterials

Research statement

Dr. Yazan research research focuses on development of nanocomposites for the targeted delivery of drugs for joint diseases; such as to enhance anti-arthritis treatments using cartilage-specific binding agents, anti-inflammatory molecules to prevent wear particles-induced aseptic loosening and antibiotic and non-antibiotic antimicrobial agents to prevent prosthetic joint infections following cemented or uncemented arthroplasty and multifunctional hydrogels as bone graft materials.
