Avicenna Center

The Avicenna Center for e-learning was established in 2003 with the participation of UNESCO and with the support of the European Commission and fifteen universities distributed among fifteen Mediterranean countries, namely Algeria, Cyprus, France, Britain, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. Philadelphia University is the sole university in Jordan to host such a center.

The Avicenna Center  project is one of UNESCO's main projects. The Executive Council and the General Conference of UNESCO supported the idea of extending the Avicenna  project to Africa. The Avicenna project in Iraq is an extension of the Avicenna network in the Mediterranean region.

UNESCO has adopted Philadelphia University for training in production and development of electronic courses for neighboring countries.
