Philadelphia University participated in the International Conference on Signals, Systems, and Devices (IEEE-SSD2026), hosted by the University of Catania in Italy from March 30 to April 2, 2026, with broad participation from researchers and experts from around the world.

The conference has been held regularly since 2001 and is jointly organized by Philadelphia University along with several international universities, including Chemnitz University of Technology and Leipzig University in Germany, the University of Sfax in Tunisia, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and the University of Catania in Italy, under the supervision of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The conference covered four main tracks: control and automation engineering, energy and renewable energy engineering, communications and information technology, and instrumentation and sensor engineering.

According to a statement issued by the university, the conference received 294 research papers from 44 countries, evaluated by 100 reviewers from 30 countries. A total of 222 papers were accepted and presented across 44 scientific sessions, in addition to 4 invited plenary sessions and 12 specialized sessions, along with opening and closing sessions. The conference papers are indexed in the global Scopus database.

The conference also organized a research competition for PhD students, where participants presented their work in three minutes before a specialized scientific committee to select the winners.

Researchers from Philadelphia University achieved a notable academic accomplishment by winning second place for Best Paper in the Systems, Automation, and Control track for their research titled:
“Trajectory Tracking Control of a KUKA Industrial Robot: A Comparative Evaluation of Six Controllers”

The research was conducted by Mohammad Bani Younes, Ahmad Mahasneh, and Mohammad Mousa (a former student in the Master’s program in Mechatronics Engineering), competing among 65 papers in this track. The evaluation was based on recognized scientific criteria, including research impact and presentation quality.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Bani Younes delivered a speech at the conference’s opening ceremony on behalf of the university, expressing Philadelphia University’s pride in its continued participation in this international scientific event. He highlighted the university’s role in supporting scientific research, fostering academic collaboration, and emphasizing the importance of leveraging science and technology to achieve sustainable development.

The organizing committee also commended the efforts of partner universities in supporting the conference over the years, particularly Philadelphia University, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammad Al-Jarrah.
